My husband's been eating Chef AJ's red lentil chili every day for the past nine months or so, and I have a friend who's made her outstanding black bean brownies several times. The great thing about her recipes is that THEY WORK! Also, it's very hard to find recipes that are free of SOFAS (sugar, oil, flour, alcohol, and salt), and one of AJ's real talents is to create amazing recipes that are also very simple. My copy arrived the other day, and I made my first recipe from it this morning (the Lentil Taco Filling on p. 169). I've attached a video if you're interested. While I love AJ, her story, her program, and her lovely personality, these recipes will be the thing that keeps me picking this book up for years to come!

Like another 3-star reviewer, I had to knock off stars for the book due to lack of editing. There is great information here and Chef AJ knows her stuff, but the book is a lot like her videos where she talks at high speed just throwing information at you. This could have had a lot more thought and planning on the organization of the book to help people that are new to this program. The chapters are just top to bottom text with no sections or subtitles, etc. - just words pouring forth from brain to paper - so it is very difficult to go back and find information you want to review. The information is great and the science solid, just not well organized.It would have been great to have at least a sample possible meal plan for a week. She has a good point that everyone is different in how much they need to eat and when they will reach satiety, but some kind of direction would better serve her readers. There is some really insightful and hard earned knowledge here on why it is so important to strictly follow these guidelines but it easily gets lost in the "flow of consciousness" writing style. I have read every vegan health book in existence but have still struggled with weight and this book has really good "boots-on-the-ground", or maybe "fork-in-the-mouth" kind of information that is making a difference for me, but it wasn't easy to find in all the chatter.The recipes in particular could use much better editing and organization. How many people might you expect to serve with some of these recipes? Some places she mentions extra liquid if you are using beans you've cooked yourself rather than canned and other places she doesn't but also doesn't mention if the canned beans are to be drained. On a couple of recipes she says that if you have the 8 qt. Instant Pot them you can put in all the ingredients at once. Terrific! But what if you don't have the 8 qt model and you are not a chef or even much of a cook? A little help here!It feels like this book was rushed to market and like it didn't receive the help of a good editor which I find frustrating. I still think it worth purchasing.

As One of the Few Men in UWL I encourage more Men to take a look at this way of eating. Applying the principles taught in this book has changed my life for the better.
